About this hanukkah word search

  • A Hanukkah menorah, also called a hanukkiah, holds nine candles: one for each of the eight nights plus the shamash, the helper candle used to light the others.
  • The four Hebrew letters on a dreidel, nun, gimel, hei and shin, stand for a phrase meaning "a great miracle happened there."
  • Hanukkah begins on the 25th of Kislev in the Hebrew calendar, so its date on the regular calendar moves from year to year, usually landing in late November or December.
  • Foods fried in oil, such as latkes and jelly-filled sufganiyot, recall the story of the temple oil that lasted eight days.
