Math Word Search for Kids

Simple words in an easy-to-read school print font, with a name line for the classroom. Words run only across and down.

This math word search builds vocabulary from basic operations to geometry and fractions, with words like addition, numerator, perimeter and equation. Knowing the language of math helps students decode word problems, so it makes a great warm-up or early-finisher activity. Have students give an example or draw a picture for each word they find.

About this math word search

  • The equals sign was introduced by Welsh mathematician Robert Recorde in 1557 because, he wrote, no two things could be more equal than a pair of parallel lines.
  • Zero is the only number that is neither positive nor negative.
  • Every prime number greater than 2 is odd, because every even number above 2 can be divided by 2.
  • Teaching tip: after solving, have students write a word problem that uses at least three of the vocabulary words.
