Bonus answer
More than a letter shuffler
Bonus word
One letter of each answer is circled, and the circled letters unscramble into a final word or phrase, like the newspaper jumble.
Clues for vocabulary
Type "word = clue" and each scrambled word prints with its definition. Good for spelling lists and science words.
Letter boxes
A box for every letter shows how long the answer is. Phrases keep their spaces, hyphens and apostrophes.
Easier or harder
Fill in the first letter or add a word bank for younger kids. No hints for a real challenge.
Answer key
The answer key prints on its own page, with the bonus answer and every word filled in.
Large print
Bigger, bolder letters for seniors and early readers.

Frequently asked questions
›Is the word scramble maker free?
Yes. Make, print and download word scrambles with answer keys for free, with no account needed.
›How do I make a word scramble?
Type a title and your words, one per line, or pick a theme to fill them in. Choose a hint and an optional bonus word, then press Print or Download PDF. The preview updates as you type.
›Can a scrambled word come out the same as the answer?
No. Every word is checked so it never comes out unscrambled, never spells another word on your list, and keeps as few letters in place as possible. A word with only one repeated letter, like "zzz", can’t be scrambled and is flagged.
›What happens to phrases like "candy cane"?
Each word is scrambled on its own and the spaces, hyphens and apostrophes stay where they are, so "jack-o’-lantern" still looks like three parts.
›How does the bonus word work?
Type a bonus word and one letter in each of several answers is circled. Once the answers are solved, the circled letters unscramble into the bonus word. The maker tells you if a letter of the bonus word isn’t in any of your answers.
›Can I share my word scramble?
Yes. "Copy share link" makes a link that rebuilds the exact same scramble, so a class or family can print the same sheet.
